Join us at Reference Point, a new resource and art cultural centre, for a dialogue between British visual artist Shantell Martin and Digital Artist Ben Sheppee. The artists first met in Tokyo in 2007 and have since collaborated on numerous projects, including a recent NFT release and an upcoming exhibition in Greenwich.
From 22nd – 31st October 2021, a show of collaborative projects by Shantell Martin and Ben Sheppee titled Side by Side will be on show in the Design District on the Greenwich Peninsula. The exhibition contains work covering a range of mediums including augmented reality (AR), animation, drawing, installation and limited editioned prints.
During the event, guests will get a unique insight into their individual artistic careers, learn about the books that have inspired them and will have the opportunity to ask their own questions. The bar at Reference Point will be open and there will be print copies of Lines, a recent publication from HENI Publishing, available to purchase. HENI Art Club members may register for digital access to the event or apply to join us in person.

Ben Sheppee (b.1978, Bristol, UK) has been part of the visuals and AR scene for over twenty years. His works lean towards minimalist abstraction, creating worlds where the elemental play of structure, light, and icon compete for the leading role, and have been exhibited at major arts venues including Tate Britain, the National Portrait Gallery and the San Francisco MOMA. Sheppee has set up one of the first ever VJ labels, where he produced numerous albums of visual content by 70 artists; developed an online school for audiovisual art and performance, and worked for clients including the British Museum, the BBC and Estée Lauder. He has been commissioned for work on National Television in the UK, LA and Japan, and his performances have opened the Hollywood Independent Film Festival. He is currently creative director at his founding company Observatory, where he continues to develop his profile as an artist and director.
Shantell Martin is a British visual artist best known for her signature black and white small and large-scale drawings. She has had solo shows at The New Britain Museum of Art, 92Y Gallery, and the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, New York. Martin has collaborated with iconic brands such as Nike, Max Mara, Tiffany & Co. as well as with New York City Ballet and Kendrick Lamar for Miami Art Basel. Martin is an adjunct professor at NYU Tisch ITP and a visiting scholar at MIT Media Lab. She lives and works in Jersey City and Los Angeles.
